The following outlines rules and safety for our pool facilities at Canada Games Aquatic Centre, Westsyde Pool and Fitness Centre, and Brock Outdoor Pool.
Please follow directions provided from aquatic staff and posted rules. Additional rules are provided on signage within the facility and may be presented in person by the lifeguard.
- Report all injuries/incidents to aquatic staff immediately.
- Patrons with serious medical conditions (seizure disorders, heart conditions, etc.) are recommended to have consulted with their doctor prior to pool use.
- No running, fighting, or any form of conduct likely to cause injury.
- Persons under the influence of drugs and alcohol are not permitted.
- Diving is not permitted except in designated areas.
- Flips or back dives from the pool deck are not permitted.
- Photography and video is not permitted without prior consent from aquatic staff, and at no time permitted in change rooms or washrooms.
- Food, gum, and glass containers are not permitted on the pool deck or in the change rooms.
- Swimmers must stay on the right side of the lane and swim continuously except at the pool ends or unless signage states otherwise.
- In the event of an emergency where lifeguards blow their whistles, please come out of the water and follow instruction provided.
- Violence, foul language, intimidation, and abusive behaviours are not permitted.
- Use of image recording devices is not permitted in the change rooms.
- The universal change room provides accessible space for everyone. Patrons are required to remain clothed unless in a private change room/cubicle.
- Designated disabled change rooms are reserved for persons with disabilities.
- Lock your belongings. The City of Kamloops is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
- Please shower before entering the pool.
- Spitting or nose cleansing is not permitted in the facility.
- Outside footwear must be removed prior to entering the change rooms or pool decks. Supportive, non-slip footwear is recommended while on the pool deck.
- Outside mobility scooters or wheelchairs are not permitted on the pool deck.
- Patrons who have flu-like symptoms/illness, such as diarrhea, vomiting, head colds, ear or nose discharge, ear infections, or have open sore(s) or bandages, or have related symptoms should not enter the pool.
- Bathing attire is required to be clean, appropriate (e.g. non-see-through material that covers genitals), and for pool use only. Underwear is not considered appropriate bathing attire.
- Refrain from personal grooming (nail clipping, shaving, and hair dye) in the pool facility including change rooms, showers, sauna, and steam room.
- Infants, toddlers or persons with incontinence must wear a swim diaper and/or elastic swim pants under their bathing attire.
Children aged 6 years or under must always be accompanied in the water and be within arm's reach of a parent or other person aged 16 years or older. The ratio of children aged 6 years or under to parent/guardian must be no greater than three to one.
Before entering the sauna and/or steam room, you should:
- Consult with your doctor if you:
- Are an elderly person.
- Have heart disease, diabetes, or high or low blood pressure.
- Are taking medication for cardiovascular or nerve disorders.
- Are pregnant.
When in the sauna and/or steam room:
- Limit each stay to five or 10 minutes with a cooling shower in-between.
- Children under 13 years of age must be accompanied by a responsible person who is 16 or older.
- Do not wear heat trapping clothing and/or exercise in a heated environment.
- Infants are not allowed in the sauna.
- Do not spit or clean your nose in the sauna.
- Scented products are not permitted.
- Share the sauna and be respectful to other people.

When in the hot tub:
- Enter slowly and cautiously.
- Keep long hair out of the water, away from all underwater fittings, especially suction fittings.
- Head should not be immersed in the water.
- Personal floatation devices and lifejackets are not permitted in the hot tub.
- Limit each stay to no more than five or 10 minutes with a cooling shower in-between.
- Infants require a very short stay (few minutes) in the water with minimal water coverage to avoid overheating.
- Children under 13 years of age must be accompanied by a responsible person 16 years of age or older.
- The hot tub is a shared space with limited capacities. Share it with respect.
- Are an elderly person.
- Maximum 10 people at a time.
- Users must be 7 years or older.
- Users must be a minimum of 43” (1.09 m) tall
- Users must know how to swim.
- Users must remove all jewelry, watches, keys, or other sharp object before entering the Aquatrack.
- No diving or sliding headfirst
- No diving under the Aquatrack
- No standing on top of slide, wall, or bridge sections.
- When you fall off, swim to the nearest edge of the pool and exit the water.
- The Aquatrack is a shared space. Share it with respect.
- Not recommended for expectant mothers and persons with or having a history of heart, back, neck or joint problems.
- Users must be 7 years or older.
- Maximum of one person allowed to use the wall at a time.
- Users must know how to swim and get on the wall from the water.
- Climbing over the top, or around the sides of the climbing wall is not permitted.
- No diving. Feet first only.
- Climbers must exit the wall into the water.
- Swim safely to the nearest pool edge immediately after exiting the climbing wall.
- Lifejackets/PFDs are not permitted on the climbing wall.
- Other swimmers must stay clear of climbing wall and drop zone when it is in use.
- Any injury suffered while in the pool enclosure
- Any contamination or fouling (e.g. urination or defecation) of the pool
- Any witnessed misconduct or suspicious activity
Photography and video recording are not permitted any City facility without the City’s approval. Cameras, smartphones, and other recording devices are strictly prohibited unless prior approval is received from the City.
