Kamloops isn’t just known as Canada’s Tournament Capital. The title reflects decades of investment, experience, and community commitment. Each year, more than 100 tournaments and major events choose Kamloops for one simple reason: it delivers exceptional experiences for athletes, organizers, and spectators alike.
A Proven Hosting Legacy
For over 40 years, Kamloops has strategically built its reputation as a leading sports hosting destination. From the 1993 Canada Summer Games to premier national championships and international showcases such as the Memorial Cup and the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, Kamloops consistently delivers high-quality, memorable events.
More than 40 years ago, local leaders saw the potential for Kamloops to host major sporting events and started building the city’s reputation as a tournament destination.
In 1984, the Province formally recognized Kamloops as the Tournament Capital of BC. The concept evolved into Canada’s Tournament Capital as the city expanded its ambitions and infrastructure. At its core, the strategy was simple but powerful—use sport hosting to drive tourism, economic activity, and community pride.
The 1993 Canada Summer Games were a turning point, putting Kamloops on the national stage. It demonstrated the city’s ability to successfully host large-scale, multi-sport competitions. This success helped solidify Kamloops’ reputation as a reliable, capable, and welcoming host community.
Built for Competition
Infrastructure alone doesn’t create a tournament capital—culture does. With more than $50 million invested in sport infrastructure, Kamloops offers purpose-built, competition-ready venues, including the Tournament Capital Centre, Canada Games Aquatic Centre, Tournament Capital Ranch, Sandman Centre, McArthur Island Sport and Event Centre, and McArthur Island Park. These facilities support multi-sport and large-scale tournaments with ease.
In 2024, the City introduced the Build Kamloops program, a major stride within the Tournament Capital program and the community, to continue to invest in modern, high-quality sport and recreation infrastructure. This long-term, intentional approach ensures facilities remain competitive, adaptable, and ready to meet the evolving needs of residents, athletes, organizers, and major events—today and into the future.

Community Built Around Events
Events do not happen through facilities and infrastructure alone—they come to life because of the people behind them. In Kamloops, there is a deep sense of pride in being a host community, and that pride is reflected in the way residents, volunteers, sport organizations, and local businesses help welcome athletes, families, and visitors.
We encourage community participation and excitement by creating opportunities for people to get involved in many ways—from community celebrations and local promotions to family-friendly activities and event-day experiences. Together, these moments help strengthen Kamloops’ culture of hosting and make each event feel welcoming, memorable, and connected to the whole community.
