The current version of Kamloops’ Official Community Plan (OCP) was adopted in December 2025. Legislation in BC requires municipalities to update Official Community Plans every five years. The next KAMPLAN update will occur by 2030.
A dedicated web page for major KAMPLAN updates is on the City’s Let's Talk KAMPLAN website.
A major update to KAMPLAN is an extensive process guided by established community vision and value statements, internal planning, and consultation requirements. Input is gathered from across City departments, the KAMPLAN Advisory Group, the community, targeted impacted parties (e.g. housing and service providers, the business sector), City Council and Tḱemlúps te Secwépemc.
Typically, following consultation, an initial (draft) plan is presented to Council, followed by another period of public input and comment. A final plan pulls together and balances feedback received with the plan's scope, Council direction, and legislative requirements. Depending on the extent of the update (i.e. an entire or partial update), the process may take from one to several years.
