The Old Courthouse

Booking an Event at The Old Courthouse

The Old Courthouse is available for public rental for small events such as a wedding ceremony, concerts and recitals, or other private functions. The building is maintained and managed by the City of Kamloops.

The Old Courthouse is available to host events 7:00 am–11:30 pm, 7 days a week.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need insurance?

Insurance is required and is an additional cost outside of the rental rate. Insurance varies and is booked with the City of Kamloops when you book your event.

Is a site visit orientation required?

A few weeks before your event, you will be asked to book an appointment for a site visit orientation at The Old Courthouse. This visit will familiarize you with the building and help you plan your event accordingly.

Can I book a wedding reception at this facility?

Wedding receptions are not available at this facility.

Can I have my wedding photos taken at this facility?

Bookings are available between a Tuesday–Saturday, for a maximum of 2 hours. A booking can be made a few weeks out. If an art exhibition is being held at the facility, the exhibition is available to the public, and photography activities will need to work within the event. A $27.56 fee plus tax is required.

Will we be provided with parking?

The permit holder will have three parking spaces on the day of the event. Other guests must park elsewhere, such as street parking or the Seymour Street Parkade (free on weekends).

Can I bring food to my event?

If you bring food to your event, there are additional fees:

  • $120 added to the rental fee
  • $500 deposit

The expectation is that only prepared food will be brought in. Cooking is not allowed on the premises. All food dishes must be removed or disposed of at the end of your event. 
 

Can I have alcohol at my event?

Alcohol is not permitted at The Old Courthouse. The only exception is for openings for art exhibitions. This will require you to obtain a liquor licence.

Non-alcoholic beverages are ONLY permitted in the main courtroom and NOT permitted in other spaces, such as the lobby, staircases, gallery, or outside. All bottles must be disposed of properly at the end of the event.

How can I decorate The Old Courthouse for my event?

As this is a heritage building, we must respect its age. All decorations must be approved by the City before decorating for your event.

What sound and other equipment is available to me for my event?

You are required to bring in your own audio equipment. There are no restrictions on music, photography, and filming.

Is there Wi-Fi?

There is no public Wi-Fi at this facility.

What do I do with garbage after my event?

Please place all garbage into the bins that are provided for any waste materials. City staff will remove garbage.

Who is responsible for the setup and take-down of my event?

You are responsible for setting up and taking down your event, including tables, chairs, and pews.

Please note that all personal items you bring to the event will be disposed of if not taken with you after your event.

How do I book an event at The Old Courthouse?

  • Payment is due on the date your booking is confirmed.  
  • Please contact the Kamloops Museum and Archives at museum@kamloops.ca or call 250-828-3576 (open Tuesday–Saturday, 9:30 am–4:30 pm). 
  • Each rental booking requires a facility orientation before the booking date.

Is a damage deposit required?

Yes, a $500 damage deposit is required. If no damage is reported, the damage deposit will be refunded within 15 days after booking.

What is the cancellation policy?

  • 100% refund if 60 days before your event
  • 50% refund if 30 days before your event
  • no refund if less than 30 days before your event
