How to Use a Bear-Resistant Solid Waste Cart
Bear-resistant solid waste carts are an effective deterrent when used properly.
Carts have a reinforced lid with two carabiner-style clips, making it difficult for bears and other wildlife to access the contents.
On collection day, residents are responsible for ensuring the lid is unclipped. To prevent damage to the clips, cart, and collection truck, attach the clips together on top of the lid.
When not at the curb for collection, bear-resistant carts should be stored with the lid securely fastened, in an enclosed structure (i.e. garage, shed) or secured to a stationary object (i.e. chained to a fence, gate, post, railing or cinder block).
