The Kamloops Museum and Archives is pleased to present a major new exhibition drawing from the Museum’s extensive Geological Specimens collection.
This exhibition will highlight the Museum’s ongoing effort to fully catalogue, organize, and display this important area of artifact holdings. Working in collaboration with local geologists and researchers from the Department of Geology at Thompson Rivers University, the project will bring together professional expertise and community curiosity to reveal the fascinating world of rocks.
Throughout the exhibition, cataloguing will take place on site, inviting visitors to see how knowledge is produced, recorded, and shared. The project will also invite complementary ways of knowing to broaden perspectives on the stories that stones can tell.
Visitors of all ages will find hands-on activities and spaces to talk rocks, making the exhibition both interactive and inclusive. Whether handling specimens, observing the work of geologists, or participating in family-friendly activities, visitors are invited to engage deeply with the rocks beneath our feet and the stories they hold.
“Geological collections are a cornerstone of the Kamloops Museum and Archives, and this exhibition provides a rare chance to watch the process of knowledge-making unfold,” said Matt Macintosh, the City’s Museum Curator.
“By pairing cataloguing with creative interaction, we aim to connect science, culture, and community.”
The Kamloops Museum and Archives warmly invites residents to the exhibition.
