Get Out and Get Active in June for National Health and Fitness Day and Recreation and Parks Month

Release Date

This Saturday, June 6, is National Health and Fitness Day, and June is the BC Recreation and Parks Association Recreation and Parks Month. The City is encouraging residents to participate and mark both events by getting out, getting active, aiming to make physical movement a daily priority, and enjoying some recreation time in our local parks.

“There are many physical, social, and mental benefits of being active,” said Diane Campbell, the City’s Sport Development Coordinator. “Whatever your fitness level, you can incorporate movement into your routine, whether that’s through registered activities, walking in your neighbourhood, gardening, playing with the kids, or spending time hiking, biking, or playing in your favourite community park space.”

Ways Residents Can Get Active This June:

  • Toonie swims on Saturday, June 6, during public swim times at Brock Pool (2:00–8:00 pm) and Westsyde Pool (12:00–4:00 pm). No registration is required.

  • Spend some time in nature by visiting one of our many local parks and trail systems. Whether you are seeking a leisurely stroll around the McArthur Island loop, a hike or bike ride in Kenna Cartwright Nature Park or the Kamloops Bike Ranch, a dog-friendly place to throw a ball around with your pooch, or a family-friendly place to picnic and play, Kamloops offers a host of beautiful outdoor spaces and trails to explore.
