City Launches Survey to Assess Environmental and Water Management in North Kamloops Watershed

Release Date

The City of Kamloops is seeking feedback from residents of Brocklehurst, North Shore, and Batchelor Heights (west) as part of the North Kamloops Watershed Project initiative to gather valuable insights. The survey will help shape the area's environmental and water management strategies.

The survey, open now until Friday, December 12 at 3:00 pm, will help City staff better understand community experiences with stormwater and flooding, identify areas of concern, and shape the development of a Strategic Watershed Plan for North Kamloops.

The survey asks residents about their experiences with flooding and drainage, their views on City stormwater management, and their willingness to support different types of infrastructure solutions, including:

  • green infrastructure, such as rain gardens, bioswales, or permeable pavers that mimic natural water absorption
  • traditional infrastructure, such as curbs, gutters, and piped stormwater systems that collect and redirect water flow

The City is also exploring how community involvement could help reduce overall stormwater management costs while improving long-term environmental outcomes.

Participants are encouraged to share how they feel the City can better manage rainwater in their neighbourhoods and provide their level of concern about the effects of climate change on future flooding events by visiting LetsTalk.Kamloops.ca/NorthKamWatershed

Survey respondents also have the opportunity to be entered for a chance to win a rain barrel. If you do not have access to a computer, paper surveys will be available at City Hall (7 Victoria Street West). Completed forms will be accepted until 3:00 pm on Friday, December 12, 2025.

In previous community engagement related to watersheds, the City has found that information from residents has been helpful in the planning process to identify and confirm known areas of concern. These areas have then been flagged appropriately and, if necessary, added to the City's Capital Plan for improvement.
