Urban Tree Tour Video Launches

To celebrate National Tree Day on September 20, we are highlighting eight unique trees located in the downtown core, along with tree facts and information, in the City’s new Urban Tree Tour video.

Whether it’s due to their seasonal colour, size, rarity, or their unique flowers, leaves, or bark, these trees deserve the spotlight. Among the trees featured in the video are:

  • Gold Rush Dawn Redwood

  • London Plane Tree

  • White Fir

  • Sweetgum

  • Western Redcedar

  • Northern Red Oak

  • Tulip Tree

  • Honey Locust

The Urban Tree Tour video promotes the City’s dedication to accessibility and inclusion because you can watch it anywhere, anytime, no matter what your ability!

Want to see the trees for yourself? Take the self-guided Urban Tree Walking Tour, where you’ll discover the same remarkable trees in the video, as well as many others throughout the city. Learn about their history, why they are remarkable, and which season is best to view them in. The trees are also marked and numbered with green signage to help identify them.

Did you know? Urban trees provide social, health, environmental, and economic benefits from removing atmospheric carbon dioxide and absorbing air pollutants, to reducing energy consumption, and increasing property values.

Did you know? The Parks Division, within the Civic Operations Department, maintains nearly 17,000 trees in parks and on boulevards. The city has a tree canopy of 17% with a goal of increasing that canopy to 20%.

Did you know? Our urban forest is a key element of green infrastructure. Without a healthy urban forest, Kamloops would not achieve its sustainable goals of environmental integrity, social well-being, and economic vibrancy.
