Property Taxes

Important Information about Home Owner Grants and Property Taxes:

Approximately 2,000 properties in the Kamloops either did not file their Home Owner Grant by the July 2, 2026, due date or did so incorrectly. Given this large number, the City has confirmed with the Province that there have been no issues with the Home Owner Grant software.

The portion of the property tax assessment covered by the Home Owner Grant is considered a portion of the total property tax amount. When the Home Owner Grant is not applied for on or before July 2, the property tax bill is not paid in full, and the outstanding balance is subject to the legislated and non-reversible 10% penalty.

Residents who have not yet applied for their Home Owner Grant can still receive it, but they must apply for it at Gov.BC.ca/HomeOwnerGrant or by calling 1-888-355-2700. Residents who apply for their Home Owner Grant late are still responsible for paying the 10% penalty. This penalty cannot be waived by the City or City Council under any circumstances.

City staff are experiencing higher-than-normal call volumes at this time, and we ask for your patience. Alternatively, residents can email revenue@kamloops.ca.
