Wholistic Wellness Workshop for Moms

Each year, the City of Kamloops issues a call for proposals for registered charities and non-profit agencies in our community to apply for Social and Community Development Grants, which are intended to fund special projects, operational costs, and/or capital expenditures that address specific current social problems and/or issues related to the City’s Social Plan or the Livability and Sustainability pillar of the Council Strategic Plan

The Hopewell Clinic and Pregnancy Centre received a $6,656 Social and Community Development Grant in 2023. This is how the grant was used:

The funds that we received from the City of Kamloops were used for operational costs including salaries, training, program workbooks, and supplies for our life-skills workshop, an educational session under our Wholistic Wellness Initiative, held in the spring of 2023.

Our Wholistic Wellness Initiative provides peer mentoring and coaching that improves the health and wellness of women and their children up to five years of life, with a focus on whole-person care. The initiative provides a dynamic and interactive setting where mothers build friendships, learn life skills, and set goals for their future. Our goal is to help foster holistic wellness and family resiliency, to cultivate strong family dynamics and emotionally healthy homes.

At the end of the workshop, we collected feedback from our program director, volunteer peer mentors, and our clients. Based on client data, we were able to achieve our objectives within the program:

  • 100% of client respondents were able to complete at least one of their personal goals.
  • 100% of client respondents felt that they had improved their wellness within at least one of the six domains of wellness (physical, mental, social, financial, spiritual, and intellectual).
  • 96% of client respondents felt that their personal resilience or family resiliency had improved.
  • 88% of client respondents felt that their emotional health had improved.
  • 100% of client respondents made friends, leading to greater natural support systems.
