Kamloops, BC—The City of Kamloops is pleased to announce the return of Emergency Services Day on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at McArthur Island Park. This free, family-friendly event invites residents of all ages to connect with local emergency services personnel and learn more about safety in our community.
Held during Emergency Preparedness Week, Emergency Services Day highlights the importance of being prepared for emergencies while showcasing the essential work of local response teams and organizations. Attendees can explore emergency vehicles and equipment, take part in hands-on activities, and speak directly with safety professionals.
Event highlights include:
- Fire Safety: Tour a fire engine and learn about firefighting tools and techniques.
- Policing in Action: Sit in a police vehicle and learn how officers support community safety.
- Community Services: Meet Community Services Officers and hear how they help keep Kamloops safe.
- Search and Rescue: Connect with Kamloops Search and Rescue and learn about their lifesaving work.
- Emergency Health Services: Meet paramedics and discover how they respond to medical emergencies.
- Pet Safety: Learn how to protect your pets in emergencies with the BC SPCA.
- FireSmart Education: Get practical tips on reducing wildfire risk around your home.
- Meet the Experts: Speak with police officers, sheriffs, firefighters, and paramedics about emergency preparedness and safety enforcement.
- Emergency Alerts: Learn about the City’s notification system—Voyent Alert!—and how to sign up.
- Emergency Support Services: Meet local volunteers and learn how to build a grab-and-go emergency kit.
“Emergency Services Day is a great opportunity for residents to meet the people behind our emergency response teams and gain practical knowledge that can make a real difference in a crisis,” said Ty Helgason, the City’s Emergency Preparedness Manager. “We encourage everyone to come out, ask questions, and learn how to be better prepared.”
Attendees are encouraged to bring a reusable bag to collect colouring books, stickers, giveaways, and helpful safety resources.
