Improving home energy efficiency is a shared effort in Kamloops. The City works with trusted third-party partners, such as Retrofit Assist, to help residents explore opportunities to upgrade their homes.
In a recent Kamloops case study, a local homeowner identified practical improvements, such as insulation, air sealing, and heating system upgrades, with guidance from the award-winning Retrofit Assist program within just seven short months. The outcome was impressive:
• Energy use was successfully reduced by 68%.
• Solar generation: 10,000 kWh/year (covering 40% of energy needs).
• Rebates earned: $17,201.
“I knew that there would be rebates available to me, but the application process was quite complicated, so it was really helpful to rely on the Retrofit Assist people being in the know so I could quickly make decisions,” said Jay Williamson, Kamloops resident and Retrofit Assist customer.
The City’s ongoing partnership with Retrofit Assist supports the municipality’s Community Climate Action Plan goal of becoming a zero-carbon community by 2050 by advancing energy retrofits that reduce demand, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and strengthen community resilience.
