On July 17, 2026, the Royal Canadian Legion celebrated its 100th anniversary, and in commemoration of that milestone, the City unveiled a lasting tribute to the men and women who served our country.

At the intersection of Battle Street and 3rd Avenue, a bilingual crosswalk has been installed to honour local veterans and recognize the enduring legacy of service and sacrifice within the community. The project has transformed an existing crosswalk into a place of reflection and remembrance, creating a meaningful connection between the Legion and the community as a whole.

The timing of the installation was especially significant. The commemorative crosswalk was unveiled in conjunction with the Legion's 100th anniversary open house, providing residents and dignitaries an opportunity to gather, celebrate, and reflect on a century of service, camaraderie, and community support.

The City would like to acknowledge West Coast Road Markings for their generous donation of time and support of this project.

More than a physical improvement, the commemorative crosswalk is a lasting reminder that the freedoms enjoyed today were made possible through the courage and dedication of those who served.
