On a picturesque morning on August 29, 2024, over 100 guests attended the momentous Fulton Field Park private ceremony commemorating Captain Jenn Casey and Wing Commander John “Moose” Fulton.
Guests heard a prayer and honour song performed by Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc and speeches from City Council, project partners, members of the Canadian military, and friends of Captain Casey. Wreaths were also laid in memory of Captain Casey and Wing Commander Fulton.
During the ceremony, it was announced that Captain Casey recently posthumously received the Meritorious Service Medal for her tireless efforts as a public affairs officer and for raising the profile of the Canadian Armed Forces through her creative use of social media campaigns for both the CF-18 Demonstration Team in 2018 and the Snowbirds from 2019 to 2020.
To close out the private dedication ceremony, invited guests were treated to May She Soar, a special musical composition created by local music composer Samantha (Sam) McElroy. It was created in honour of Captain Casey as a gift to the Snowbirds in her memory.
Following the private ceremony, residents attended a special public event to hear from local May She Soar monument artist Sarah Holliday and fabricator Owen Jones of Raw Elements, who shared their inspiration for the heartfelt project.
