Every month, you’ll see a short leadership update like this one in your City newsletter.
We’re starting these updates for a simple reason: to stay better connected with you.
Local government decisions affect daily life—how our city grows, how services are delivered, and how we maintain safety, infrastructure, and community well being. In a time when information moves quickly and misinformation can spread just as fast, it’s important that you hear directly from us, in clear and accessible terms, about what the City is doing and why.
This space is about sharing facts, answering common questions, and—most importantly—listening. It’s one more way we’re working to build trust, understanding, and open dialogue with our community.
We are living in a time of unprecedented change and complexity. Every day, we are surrounded by information from many different sources—news, social media, commentary, and opinion. Not all of it is accurate, and not all of it reflects the full picture. When it comes to local government, that can make it difficult to know what’s true, how decisions are made, and where to find reliable information.
At the City of Kamloops, we take that responsibility seriously. We believe an informed community is a stronger community—one that is better equipped to ask questions, take part in discussions, and engage meaningfully in civic life.
That’s why we’re launching a new webpage called “Let’s Learn.”
“Let’s Learn” is designed to be a trusted, easy to use source of factual and plain language information about topics that regularly come up in our community. It’s a place where we break down complex or often misunderstood subjects into clear explanations, without jargon or guesswork.
You’ll find information on topics such as Development Cost Charges (DCCs), the role and authority of City Council, how local government works, and issues related to safety and security. These are areas where questions—and sometimes misinformation—frequently arise, and where clarity really matters.
Our intention is not to overwhelm or persuade, but to inform. By sharing accurate, transparent information in an accessible way, we hope to support respectful, fact based conversations and help residents feel more confident navigating the issues that affect our city.
I invite you to explore the “Let’s Learn” page, come back to it as questions arise, and share it with others who may be looking for reliable information about how the City operates.
This won’t be a one time effort. Through these regular leadership updates, we’ll continue to share context, address common questions, and highlight resources that help make City work easier to understand. We’re also paying attention to the questions and concerns we hear from the community—and using those to guide what we share next.
Thank you for taking the time to stay informed and engaged. We’re listening, and we’re committed to keeping the conversation open.
