Smiles were abundant at the Tournament Capital Ranch on Saturday, September 13, as a playful new initiative was launched. During a softball tournament attended by many families, both kids and parents were able to take advantage of a big red chest full of games.
Courtesy of United Way BC, a Playbox was unveiled—a sturdy, weatherproof container placed in community parks, containing shared games and sports equipment.
United Way BC generously provided the Playbox and its equipment, while the location is provided and monitored by the City. During the spring and summer months, City parks staff will unlock and lock the Playbox when Tournament Capital Ranch facilities open and close.
The Playbox features more than two dozen games, including:
• small and large foam baseball bat and ball sets
• toddler and adult soccer balls
• a mini lacrosse set
• tennis, pickleball, and badminton sets
• kickball playground balls
• a 10-foot parachute
• rings toss
• jumbo checkers
• and more!
The Playbox rules are simple—share items with everyone using the Playbox, stay in the grassy area around the Playbox, return all items, and close the lid after using.
The particular location of this Playbox will support families who visit the Tournament Capital Ranch for sporting events and tournaments and will serve as a resource and amenity for nearby communities, like Rayleigh and Heffley Creek.
