Online Application to Work as an Election Official

The City of Kamloops is seeking election officials to facilitate voting in the 2026 General Local Election. Available positions include Presiding Election Official (PEO), Alternate Presiding Election Official (APEO), and Election Official. If you are successful in being selected to work, you will be required to:

  • Work on Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 7:00 am to approximately 9:00 pm
  • Remain on site until duties are complete, as determined by the PEO or APEO
  • If applicable, work on Advance Voting Opportunity (AVO) dates (see below for more details).
  • If applying for Presiding/Alternate Presiding Election Official roles, attend mandatory paid training sessions scheduled at a later time

Election workers will receive a stipend ranging from $300 to $600 per day, based on the responsibilities of their assigned election role. Stipends will be issued after October 17, 2026. Additional compensation will be provided for training and voting day set-up hours.

Duties may include:

  • Greeting and directing voters
  • Clarifying processes and required identification
  • Assisting with set-up and cleanup of voting locations, including arranging chairs and tables
  • Administering solemn declarations
  • Issuing ballots and instructing voters on how to mark ballots
  • Serving all voters in a friendly and efficient manner

Required working conditions:

  • Physical ability to work long hours in a standing or sitting position
  • Dressing neatly, but comfortably 
  • Responsible for own meals and beverages
  • Ability to work in high-pressure situations while paying meticulous attention to detail

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 18 years of age and legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Ability to be a non-partisan representative of the City of Kamloops
  • English literacy and language skills. Fluency in a second language may be beneficial
  • Clear printing/handwriting
  • Ability to focus, stay on track, and process voters in a timely, professional, and efficient manner
  • Patience, tact, and courtesy when interacting with a variety of people during a long day
  • Excellent organizational skills and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to understand and follow directions, written instructions, or checklists
  • Excellent verbal communication skills to welcome and provide clear instructions to voters
  • Previous experience as an Election Official may be an asset
