Most closures related to the Red Bridge fire on September 19 have been lifted.
As Ministry of Transportation and Transit crews work to remove the debris and remaining Red Bridge structure, Pioneer Park/parking lot and the Pioneer Park boat launch will remain closed until further notice. Rivers Trail within Pioneer Park has reopened; additional trail closures are not anticipated.
The McArthur Island boat launch remains closed due to low water levels. The Valleyview boat launch is open, however residents are asked to stay away from the Red Bridge site. Transport Canada and the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure have ordered the portion of the South Thompson River between Pioneer Park and Riverside Park to remain closed to all boating. Residents are asked to abide by all posted signage.
The City of Kamloops would like to assure residents that the safety and quality of drinking water has not been impacted or compromised as a result of the Red Bridge fire or debris. The City’s water intake is upstream from the Red Bridge and is therefore pulling water before it reaches the debris. The City continuously monitors water quality and would immediately advise residents of any health concerns using the Voyent Alert app.
