Release Date

Kamloops, BC—The City of Kamloops is honoured to co host Rethinking Community: Diverse Community Voices with Tḱemlúps te Secwépemc on October 29 and 30, 2025, at the Delta Hotels by Marriott Kamloops.

Held on the ancestral and unceded territory of Tḱemlúps te Secwépemc within Secwépemcúl’ecw, this gathering invites community leaders, organizations, and changemakers to join two days of meaningful discussion that focus on equity, diversity, inclusion, cultural safety, and reconciliation. The conference is designed collaboratively through both the Indigenous and settler lens to meaningfully discuss what it means to be a welcoming and inclusive community while amplifying diverse voices from across sectors. Delegates can expect bold and courageous conversations that ask what happens when we move beyond fear, share teachings, and commit as a collective to building more positive, inclusive, and just communities.

Rethinking Community is more than a conference. It’s an invitation to lean into the hard conversations, to listen with curiosity, and to imagine what’s possible when we prioritize equity and inclusion for all,” says Michelle Amaral, the City of Kamloops Human Resources Advisor specializing in equity, diversity and inclusion. “We are proud to create an open and inclusive space alongside our Tḱemlúps te Secwépemc partners that fosters respect, collaboration, mutual growth and meaningful change.”

“At Tḱemlúps te Secwépemc, we believe that true reconciliation is rooted in respect, relationship, and a willingness to listen with our whole hearts", says Kúkpi7 Rosanne Casimir of Tḱemlúps te Secwépemc. "This conference is an opportunity to gather on our ancestral lands to reflect, to speak truth, and to challenge old ways of thinking. Together, we can imagine and commit to a future where all voices, especially those too long unheard, are valued and uplifted. We are proud to walk this path in partnership with the City of Kamloops and all those working toward equity, inclusion, and lasting change.”

This is a unique opportunity for professionals, leaders, and community members from across British Columbia and beyond to gather in the heart of Tḱemlúps te Secwépemc territory for meaningful dialogue and connection. Additional program and registration details will be released in the coming weeks.
