The City of Kamloops is pleased to announce we have passed our latest BC Municipal Safety Association Certificate of Recognition (COR) audit with flying colors! With an impressive score of 91%, the City has surpassed rigorous industry-based safety standards.
This achievement comes as a testament to the unwavering dedication of every individual within the organization to prioritize the health and safety of its workforce. From front-line workers to Safety division team members, to top-level management, the commitment to safety shines through in every aspect of City operations.
The comprehensive audit, which involved extensive on-site interviews, document reviews, and thorough observations by an external auditor, highlighted the City's exemplary performance, especially in relation to program administration, organizational commitment, and the functioning of the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
"Our staff's health and safety are paramount to us every single day," remarked Colleen Quigley, the City’s Director of Human Resources and Safety. "We understand the diverse and sometimes hazardous nature of our work, which is why maintaining a steadfast focus on safety is non-negotiable."
The City's exceptional performance earns us a passing grade and qualifies Kamloops for an annual incentive payment of approximately $231,000 from WorkSafeBC for the three-year duration of certification.
"While our primary motivation for completing the audit is always the well-being of our staff, it's truly gratifying to receive recognition that also translates into tangible benefits that we can invest in programs and services to benefit the entire community," expressed Quigley.
At the heart of Kamloops' safety success story lies a culture of collective responsibility. Safety is a shared commitment embraced by every member of the organization every day. City leadership applauds the ongoing efforts of its dedicated staff and remains unwavering in its commitment to fostering a safe and supportive work environment for all.
