Kamloops Fire Rescue Celebrates New Engine with Special Push-In Ceremony

Kamloops Fire Rescue marked an important milestone at Fire Station No. 1. On November 29, 2024, members of Kamloops Fire Rescue, Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc, City Council, and the community gathered for a heartfelt fire engine push-in ceremony. This traditional ritual, dating back to the early days of firefighting, celebrates the arrival of a new fire engine and symbolizes unity and readiness to serve.

The newest addition to Kamloops Fire Rescue’s fleet is more than a state-of-the-art vehicle. It is a powerful symbol of reconciliation. Adorned with the Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc logo, the fire engine honours the unceded lands on which Kamloops is located and recognizes the deep, ongoing partnership between the City and Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc.

“This fire engine represents more than our commitment to safety for all residents in our community; it represents respect, partnership, and our recognition of all the communities we serve,” said Kamloops Fire Rescue Fire Chief Ken Uzeloc.

"Emergency management and preparedness are priorities for Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc and is robust in our partnerships and agreements with Kamloops Fire Rescue and the City of Kamloops,” said Kukpi7 Rosanne Casmir. “Having our logo on the firetrucks symbolizes and exemplifies our shared commitment to protecting our families and unity in upholding community safety. On behalf of Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc and our fire chief youth representative, Tyson Peters, we extend our appreciation to everyone who participated and attended the firetruck push.”

Special guests included Kamloops Fire Rescues’ two junior fire chiefs, who helped with the symbolic push alongside members of both communities, capturing the spirit of collaboration and hope for future generations.

Cheers and applause filled the bay as the fire engine was pushed into the bay, marking a shared moment of pride and unity. Kamloops Fire Rescue is honoured to serve and protect all residents and looks forward to continuing its journey of reconciliation and collaboration with Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc.
