The City of Kamloops hosted Emergency Services Day on Saturday, May 10, to close out national Emergency Preparedness Week 2025. The event welcomed over 1,000 guests and kept McArthur Island bustling with activity throughout the day.
A special thank you goes out to all of the participating agencies for their dedication and hard work in making this event a success. Their efforts in bringing emergency vehicles and interactive booths provided the public with education on emergency preparedness, strengthening the community’s understanding of emergency services and how all partners work together to keep our community and residents safe.
Attendees had the opportunity to explore a wide range of activities and demonstrations, including exploring a fire engine and learning about firefighting equipment, sitting in a police car, and participating in a bike rodeo to practise safe riding skills. While Kamloops Search and Rescue showcased their lifesaving missions, BC Emergency Health Services demonstrated the vehicles and equipment used in medical emergencies, and the BC SPCA offered tips on keeping pets safe. Experts provided advice on protecting homes from wildfires and information on the City's emergency alert notification system, Voyent Alert!. Volunteers from Emergency Support Services shared how to pack an emergency to-go bag.
The event highlighted the importance of emergency services and fostered a strong connection between the agencies and the community.
No matter the time of year, stay alert and stay safe!
