On October 9, 2025, over 75 community members of all ages laced up their skates to celebrate the grand opening of Kamloops’ newest mini rink on the North Shore. The event featured a free public skate complete with complimentary skate rentals, popcorn, coffee, and hot chocolate, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all.

The celebration began with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, opened by Elder Dianne Morgan of Tḱemlúps te Secwépemc, whose blessing grounded the event in gratitude and community spirit. City staff, Build Kamloops Select Committee Chair Kelly Hall, and representatives from the Kamloops Minor Hockey Association—including eight-year-old Hadley Street—shared inspiring remarks, with Hadley expressing how the new rink will help her learn and grow in the sport she loves.

A special thank you was extended to the McArthur Island Curling Association for working with the City and for their generous contribution—relocating to the Kamloops Curling Club, enabling the space to be retrofitted for the new rink, which creates additional ice time in our community for U-7 and U-9 hockey players, the Kamloops Skating Club, and public skating programs. Their willingness to co-operate helped bring this vibrant new recreational space to life.

The mini rink is now open and ready to welcome skaters of all ages and skill levels, offering a new place for connection, learning, and fun in the heart of the North Shore.
