In May 2024, the beloved St. Andrew's on the Square in Kamloops, a symbol of our community's rich history, was damaged by fire. While we aren't able to provide a full update on the restoration progress just yet, we wanted to take a moment to recognize a significant milestone in the recovery journey.
The front doors of St. Andrew's, which have welcomed visitors to this heritage building for many years, are more than just an entryway. They are a symbol of our community's history and resilience. These doors, carefully restored with meticulous care, have been filled and sanded, preserving their beauty. A deep chocolate-brown stain was applied, seamlessly blending repairs. A historically accurate replacement of heritage brass hardware has been installed, honouring the craftsmanship of the past.
While the doors will remain offsite while restoration continues, we were grateful to have snapped a few photos during testing, capturing a glimpse of the artistry involved.
This may be just one step in a long road ahead, but it's a reminder of the dedication and passion of the craftspeople involved in bringing St. Andrew's back to life. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has supported these efforts, whether through donations, volunteering, or simply sharing their love for St. Andrew's.
Your support is invaluable, and we are excited to see St. Andrew's continue its legacy as a cherished part of Kamloops' history.
Edited note: We would like to thank Mel of the Kamloops Heritage Society for providing us with some additional information on the doors and its hardware. We are incredibly grateful for the continued support of the restoration process and the Kamloops Heritage Society’s volunteer efforts to restore the building in the 90's.
