The Kamloops Farmers’ Market held its first market in 1978, And this past July, the Kamloops Farmers’ Market announced that it will provide the Kamloops Museum and Archives with historical files dating back to its earliest years.

The Kamloops Farmer’s Market was a founding member organization of both the Kamloops Food Policy Council and the BC Farmers’ Market Association.

“The Kamloops Museum and Archives is very excited to be getting this extensive set of materials from the Kamloops Farmers’ Market,” said Jaimie Fedorak, Archivist at the Kamloops Museum and Archives. “With the growing interest in local food security and Kamloops’ strong history of agriculture, we are confident current and future researchers will be excited to delve into this collection.”

The collection contains a large range of records, including vendor applications, correspondence, advertising materials, and meeting minutes. The records will be available to researchers as soon as they arrive at the Archives; however, the collection will not be fully catalogued and described for some time, and some records may be restricted. The Museum is also planning to use the records in exhibitions, programs, and advertising relating to Kamloops’ history.

The Archives are open Tuesday–Friday, 1:15–4:00 pm. Kamloops Museum and Archives is open Tuesday–Friday, 9:30–4:30 pm. Learn more at KamloopsMuseum.ca.
