More than 500 residents attended the Civic Operations Open House on Saturday, May 23, joining in a day of hands-on activities, demonstrations, and behind-the-scenes experiences in what was a record-breaking turnout for the event.

The event, held every two years in recognition of National Public Works and Civic Operations Week, highlights the essential work Civic Operations staff provide to support infrastructure, innovation, mobility, and community safety in Kamloops.

Residents of all ages explored the sign shop, greenhouse, and mechanical shop, while enjoying activities such as planter painting, archaeological digging, traffic signal demonstrations, and rubber ducky races.

“Our Civic Operations team usually works behind the scenes, so this event is a great opportunity to showcase the important work happening across the department,” said Civic Operations Director Jen Fretz.

“It’s incredibly rewarding to see staff connect with residents and share the work they are so passionate about.”

A special thank you to the Brock Central Lions Club for providing lunch for event attendees.
