This work is necessary to ensure BC Hydro can continue to provide safe, reliable electrical service to customers in the area.

Construction Timeline:

April 30: Work will be taking place directly across from City Hall on 1st Avenue. Traffic will still flow in both directions while this work is underway. Access to the alley between 1st and 2nd Avenue will be blocked from 1st Avenue, but accessible from 2nd Avenue.

May 4–June 19: The bulk of the work will occur during this time, please refer to map directly below.

All of 1st Avenue will be closed to traffic in both directions between Seymour Street and Victoria Street, with pedestrian access available on at least one side of 1st Avenue. This closure is in affect 24/7 for the duration of the project.

Parking on the east side of City Hall will be inaccessible. Public parking at City Hall on the north side of the building will remain open. Access to the alley from 1st Avenue will be blocked, with access to the alley only available from 2nd Avenue.

June 2: For one day, there will be a broader closure of 1st Avenue between Seymour Street and Landsdowne Street from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. The added closure (northbound lane between Victoria Street and Lansdowne Street) will not impact westbound traffic on Lansdowne Street. The alley between Seymour Street and Lansdowne Street will remain accessible from 2nd Avenue. A small portion of the north lane off Seymour Street between 1st and 2nd Avenue will also be closed this day.
