FREE Public Skate #1 - Beem Credit Union Unplug and Play Family Literacy Week

  • The annual Beem Credit Union Unplug and Play Family Literacy Week will take place January 24–31, 2026, in support of Family Literacy Day® on January 27. 

    The City of Kamloops, in partnership with community partners, encourages families to find a healthy balance between sedentary screen time and active family time, connect more with each other, and spend at least 15 minutes a day doing an activity together that builds literacy skills.

    As part of the Beem Credit Union Unplug and Play Family Literacy Week, the City of Kamloops is hosting four events:

    Gang Reduction and Prevention For Parents/Caregivers

  • Gang Reduction Through Informed Practice (GRIP) is designed to educate communities on how to recognize gang-associated behaviours and implement effective prevention/intervention strategies through a multidisciplinary approach.

    • No registration is required.

    ABOUT SAFER SCHOOLS TOGETHER (SST)

    Safer Schools Together (SST) specializes in enhancing school safety by providing comprehensive training, services and tools that address both digital and behavioural threats and promote violence prevention.

    Change Makers Youth Conference

  • Youth aged 12+ from across the region will be coming together for the upcoming Change Makers Youth Conference, a full-day free event designed to build leadership skills, encourage cultural exchange, and support reconciliation.

    Participants will take part in an engaging program that blends leadership activities with cultural learning. Hands-on sessions include:

    This is a free community concert sponsored by the City—food and cash donations for the Kamloops Food Bank will be gratefully accepted at the door to support residents in our community.

    Ten local choirs will present a delightful selection of Christmas carols with singalongs in between sets for audience participation. The choirs in attendance will be:

    Stuff the Bus

  • Help Stuff the Bus!

    Together we can all make someone’s holiday a little brighter! Join the City along with BC Transit to stuff a city bus full of non-perishable items that will benefit the Kamloops Food Bank.

    There are two opportunities to provide a donation. A BC Transit bus will be stationed at Save-On-Foods in Columbia Square on December 6 and 7 between 10:00 am–4:00 pm each day. Monetary donations are also being accepted.

    The Kamloops Christmas Market will be a vibrant celebration of local artisanship and seasonal charm.

    Stuff the Cruiser

  • Kamloops RCMP and the City's Crime Prevention volunteers will be outside the Real Canadian Superstore for the annual Stuff the Cruiser gift collection event. Items received will be delivered to Christmas Amalgamated, which will sort and deliver them to families throughout the city. 

    A new option this year for those looking for something different, consider a $5.00 gift card to go towards the purchase of a turkey as part of a family dinner.

    Indigenous Vendor Showcase

  • In collaboration with Sc.wén̓wen Economic Development Corp (SEDC), the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC), City of Kamloops, and Thompson Rivers University (TRU) are hosting an Indigenous vendor showcase for the regional community.

    Indigenous owned businesses are invited to come and meet with buyers from around the region and share information about the goods and services their business provides. Register now to secure a free table for the event.
