August 20 Update—Due to the provincial announcement of new public health restrictions due to COVID-19, Music in the Park has been cancelled for the rest of the summer. We thank BCLC for their sponsorship and we look forward to bringing back this event in 2022.
Music in the Park, North America’s longest running series of its kind, is back this summer after being cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2021 season will run from August 15–28 with an expected return to full summer programming in 2022. The British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) is once again stepping up as the presenting sponsor for this year’s event, helping residents and visitors return to a summer rhythm that many have been missing.
“We knew even if we could only pull off a partial season in 2021, we still wanted the show to go on,” said Henry Small, Music in the Park Coordinator. “Music in the Park has become part of the central nervous system of a Kamloops summer. Life isn’t quite right without it. We are excited to get a taste of it again this year and look forward to a full summer of music in 2022.”
The two-week August run of music will feature performances by 10 local acts and another 5 from out of town. Acts will perform from 7:00–8:30 pm daily at Riverside Park. As always, all performances are free to the public. Find the detailed schedule at Kamloops.ca/MusicInThePark.
This summer, performances will coincide with an increase in commercial recreational, food, and beverage services at the Concession within Riverside Park as part of a separate pilot project managed by Tourism Kamloops.
The Music in the Park tradition began in 1994 as a legacy of the 1993 Canada Summer Games. For 26 years, the City of Kamloops and BCLC have sponsored daily concerts at Riverside Park throughout July and August. 2020 was the first year since 1994 that the series did not take place.
