KFR members demonstrate self-rescue operations as part of training

Kamloops Fire Rescue and the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local 913 hosted a Fire Ground Survival demonstration Friday, May 11. Mayor and Council, as well as the media, were invited to see how KFR trains its members in situational awareness, air management, communication, avoiding panic, disentanglement, and upper-floor escape techniques.

Data shows that firefighters becoming trapped or disoriented represent the largest portion of structural fire ground fatalities. Improving situational awareness can help save firefighters' lives. The Fire Ground Survival program is funded by the IAFF.

For two weeks in May, the KFR Training Centre Facility had the opportunity to host a mobile training unit that moves around Western Canada.
