Kamloops Celebrates the Arts at Mayor's Gala

Since 2006, supporters of Kamloops' arts community have come together once a year to recognize the city's top emerging artists, community influencers, and corporate champions at the Mayor's Gala for the Arts. As a partnership between the Kamloops Art Gallery, the Kamloops Symphony, and Western Canada Theatre, this prestigious fundraising event acknowledges and celebrates arts and culture in Kamloops.

On Saturday, January 19, 2019, three awards were presented at a '50s-themed gala at the Coast Kamloops Hotel & Conference Centre:

Emerging Artist Award 
This award recognizes an emerging Kamloops artist who works in the visual and/or performing arts for their current accomplishments and future potential. This year's Emerging Artist Award was presented to:

  • Robin Hodgson, visual artist and co-owner of REpublic Gallery
  • JP Lancaster, musician with At Mission Dolores, and founder of Factotum Cassettes & Oddities

Community Impact Award
This award recognizes outstanding Kamloops individuals and/or small businesses that have made a significant contribution to support local arts and culture through donations, sponsorships, and/or volunteer services in support of a local arts organization and/or Kamloops artist. This year's Community Impact Award was presented to:

  • Niki Remesz, founder and owner of Uniquely Inspired Marketing

Corporate Champion Award
This award recognizes outstanding Kamloops business leaders and/or medium to large businesses/corporations that have made a significant contribution to support local arts through donations, sponsorships, and/or volunteer services in support of a local arts organization and/or Kamloops artist. This year's Corporate Chamption Award was presented to:

  • Kamloops This Week, part of Aberdeen Publishing Group
