Construction on the Kamloops Centre for the Arts Project continues to make steady progress, with excavation well underway over the past several months.
This spring, crews began removing earth from the site at an impressive pace, excavating between 1,200 and 1,500 cubic metres of material each day. As excavation continues, specialized shotcrete retaining walls and anchors are being installed around the perimeter of the site to ensure the excavation remains safe and secure.
To date, crews have completed several rows of shotcrete anchors, with approximately 1,600 anchors planned throughout the project. The excavation has nearly reached the first level of the future underground parking structure, and crews continue to dig toward the second and final parking level. To date, 34% of the shoring panels and 39% of the shoring anchors have been installed.
By August, the excavation is expected to reach its maximum depth. At that point, a tower crane base will be installed in the centre of the site, marking the transition from excavation to vertical construction. Soon after, foundation work will begin, and the structure will start rising above ground.
While residents will continue to see the excavation grow deeper throughout the summer, a visible transformation is just around the corner. This fall, the Kamloops Centre for the Arts will begin to take shape, bringing the community one step closer to a vibrant new cultural landmark in the heart of the city.
