A mighty contingent of City staff, family, and friends marched in solidarity with our 2SLGBTQPIA+ community at the 2024 Kamloops Pride Parade on Sunday, August 25. Pride Week in Kamloops is a great opportunity for staff to promote safety and inclusion within our community while engaging with residents in the spirit of joy and celebration!
City staff also celebrated Pride Week by hosting a collaborative community open house at the TRU Campus Commons on August 21, which included food trucks, face painting, and a ton of giveaways. The City also hosted two Pride swims at Westsyde Pool on August 22 and 23.
The Kamloops Museum and Archives has been collecting memories, stories, and lived experiences of the local 2SLGBTQPIA+ community throughout August, which will be housed in the archives. This collection will grow to inform archival documents and photographs that amplify the voices of the Kamloops queer community for future generations to learn from.
On Saturday, August 24 the Museum saw over 180 residents participate in Rainbow Magic Passport Program.
Thank you to our volunteer staff committee who organized this year’s City Pride events and to everyone who got involved in Making Kamloops Shine for Pride! Thank you also to Kamloops Pride for all your work organizing Pride Week and for serving our community so well.
