Spring GoByBike Week, which took place May 28–June 4, was a huge success! Participation was up 66% over 2022, with 20,559 kms tracked on GoByBikeBC.ca. GoByBike encourages ridership for work, school, and daily errands and promotes a way to get active, stay healthy, lower stress, and improve mental health. GoByBike Week also encourages residents to choose their bicycles for transportation rather than a motor vehicle—converting stationary time behind the steering wheel into time pedalling their bike for environmentally friendly, active transportation.

The spring event had seven Celebrations Stations throughout the city that provided an opportunity for participants to enter to win daily prize draws. Daily prizes were awarded to 18 riders and two bikes were awarded. The grand prize, a Marin Fairfax commuter bike, was sponsored by Cycle Logic.

The week kicked off with all of the Celebration Stations in full swing. The week ended with TRU Sustainability sponsoring an appreciation breakfast held at the Kamloops Courthouse. Dearborn Ford sponsored a zero-emissions Ford F-150 Lightning for the week, which was used for all of the week’s errands, including setting up and taking down the stations.

A big thank you to our premier sponsor, Interior Savings. This event would not have been possible without their sponsorship and the generosity of others, including Dearborn Ford, Cycle Logic, and Thompson Rivers University.

In addition to our sponsors, the Kamloops Cycling Coalition was a huge help in the success of this event by providing volunteers and recording stats of rider information. People in Motion, ASK Wellness, We Are One, and Nature’s Fare all hosted Celebration Stations along with TRU Sustainability and Interior Savings. The North Shore Business Improvement Association and the Kamloops Central Business Improvement Association provided prize donations from their respective businesses. Canco donated 1,000 bottles of water for riders, and Sahali Save-On-Foods provided snacks and refreshments.

We invite all residents to keep riding and to save the date for Fall GoByBike weeks happening October 16–29, 2023.
