The City of Kamloops Aquatics Section recently received three awards for their dedicated work in 2022 by the Lifesaving Society BC and Yukon Branch. These are awarded to municipalities in a variety of different population sizes, and Kamloops is in the 50,000–100,000 category.
The three awards provided recognition to:
- Instructing the most Bronze Lifesaving courses for a city under 100,000 population.
- Instructing the most National Lifeguard courses and recertifications—we built on the lifesaving program from the previous year by training 42 candidates in the National Lifeguard certification.
- Offering the most Lifesaving Instructor courses—we increased capacity to host more courses, to increase the demand for lifesaving instructors to teach the introductory Bronze Lifesaving program.
The recognition speaks to the efforts the Aquatics Section has put in to train new lifeguards and to address the critical staff shortages to build future swim lesson programs to be offered. The entire Aquatics team has done amazing work to receive this accomplishment.
