The City of Kamloops Aquatics Section recently received three awards for their dedicated work in 2021 from the Lifesaving Society BC and Yukon Branch. These are awarded to municipalities in a variety of different population sizes, and Kamloops is in the 50,000–100,000 category.
The three awards were:
- Most Bronze programs - Introduction to Lifesaving and Lifeguarding courses that develop water safety, rescue, and first aid skills.
- Most Lifesaving Instructor courses and recertifications - courses for trainers who want to teach Bronze programs.
- Most First Aid courses and recertifications - includes a range of first aid courses for on the job and personal applications.
City Lifeguards continue to do an amazing job in providing community safety at our facilities. In 2021, 21 people were rescued from drowning incidents and first aid was administered 165 times. Lifeguards complete quarterly training and/or recertification to ensure their skills are up to date.
