This summer, the City of Kamloops received $30,000 in provincial funding to continue improving the City’s emergency management program and Emergency Operations Centre. The funding comes through the Community Emergency Preparedness Fund, administered by the Union of BC Municipalities, and is part of approximately $3.5 million being provided to 110 projects across the province.

The funding will support a local full-scale Emergency Operations Centre exercise in 2027; ongoing team training; and the purchase of equipment, supplies, and connectivity resources. These investments will give City staff opportunities to test procedures, practise their roles, identify areas for improvement, and strengthen the tools and resources used to coordinate an emergency response.

“Strong emergency management depends on our ability to work together, communicate effectively, and put our plans into action,” said Ty Helgason, the City’s Emergency Preparedness Manager. “The work we do before an emergency helps ensure we are ready to support our community when it matters most.”
