Open House Draws Big Crowd and Smiling Faces

Over 500 residents braved the inclement spring weather to attend the Civic Operations Open House on Saturday, May 25.

Children and adults of all ages attended the event in recognition of National Public Works and Civic Operations Week (May 19–25). The event is held every two years and showcases the important contributions Civic Operations provides in Kamloops through infrastructure, innovation, mobility, and security.

From sign shop, greenhouse, and mechanical shop tours, to planter painting, archeological digging, traffic signal light activities, and rubber ducky races, there was something for everyone to enjoy!

“Our Civic Operations team usually works in the background, out of the public eye, so this event is a great opportunity for us to celebrate all of the work that is done in our department,” said Civic Operations Director Jen Fretz. “As the Director of the department, it truly is wonderful to see our staff show members of the public the work that they do and are so passionate about.”

The next Civic Operations Open House event will be held in 2026.
