Exciting progress continues at the Kamloops Seniors Community Centre as renovations are at or near completion, marking another milestone in the City's commitment to supporting seniors and strengthening community services.
The Kamloops Seniors Community Centre is the first project completed through the Build Kamloops program, as a capacity-building initiative designed to help fill service gaps and address immediate community needs.
Located at 307-730 Cottonwood Avenue, the 12,000 sq. ft. facility is leased by the City of Kamloops and operated by the Centre for Seniors Information. Since the City assumed the lease in August 2024, work has been underway to improve the facility’s accessibility and safety.
The City has completed several upgrades at the rear entrance, which serves as the facility’s primary entrance. Improvements include installing two new automatic door push pads at both hand and foot level, adding a second handrail, enhancing lighting with an automatic sensor system, and installing new windows in the entrance doors to improve visibility.
Inside the centre, a new greeting desk has been installed to create a more welcoming arrival experience and improve sightlines to the main entrance. Additional office space has also been constructed, providing staff with more room to work and a private setting for confidential conversations and business.
Renovations to the kitchen area are also progressing, with a firewall installed between the kitchen and the neighbouring Moose Lodge and upgrades underway to meet Building Code requirements for an industrial kitchen. Expected to be operational in late fall 2026, the commercial-grade kitchen will support the Centre for Seniors Information's growing meal programs, helping provide affordable, quality homemade meals for residents of Cottonwood Manor and seniors throughout the community.
