The first Urban Forest Management Plan (UFMP) in Kamloops was prepared in 1997 by City staff, with input from an Urban Forestry Advisory Committee. That plan, which was updated by staff in 2007, was a first step in providing a framework to enable Kamloops to manage the urban forest. Seven years later, there have been significant advances in the tools used for urban forest management, and there are also heightened concerns about the urban forest in relation to the environment and climate change. This Urban Forest Management Strategy (UFMS) was prepared with input from City staff from multiple departments, the tree industry, and the public.
