City Invites Residents to Provide Input on Westsyde Pool and Fitness Centre Usage

Release Date

Do you use the Westsyde Pool and Fitness Centre? How, when, and if not, why not? The Westsyde Pool and Fitness Centre - Recreation Conversation project invites the community and facility users to share their input as the City explores ways to optimize facility use, improve cost recovery, and enhance facility and programming offerings.

The City has launched a new survey to better understand how the facility is used. The survey is available on the City’s Let’s Talk page at LetsTalk.Kamloops.ca/WestsydePool and is open until July 3, 2026.

City staff will also be at Northills Mall and Westsyde Centennial Park on Saturday, June 20, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, for in-person conversations with residents to share information and encourage both facility users and non-users to take the survey. Respondents will be able to scan a QR code to take the survey online on their own devices or complete a paper survey.

The City is committed to delivering accessible and sustainable recreation services, with a focus on improving efficiency and maximizing cost recovery to support the long-term success of its facilities and programs.

Located in the Westsyde neighbourhood, the facility is a valued local amenity that supports recreation, fitness, and community connection. The City is exploring opportunities to enhance overall use and better respond to evolving community needs within existing service levels. As part of this work, the goal is to improve the facility’s cost recovery rate to help ensure long-term sustainability.

“Recreation is a community benefit. Providing subsidized recreation services that support the well-being of all residents is an important role for a municipal government, including the City of Kamloops,” said Sherri Holmes, the City’s Sport, Recreation, and Wellness Manager.

“We are interested in hearing residents’ thoughts on how we can improve facility use and enhance facility and program offerings at Westsyde Pool and Fitness Centre.”

Survey input will be considered alongside operational, technical, and budgetary factors to help identify practical opportunities to optimize facility use, improve cost recovery, and enhance facility and programming offerings, and to inform recommendations to be brought to Council later in 2026.
