The City’s Civic Construction team is advancing the McGill Water Main Upgrades Project, with work beginning the week of July 20 between Dalhousie Drive and University Drive to improve the reliability of the community’s water infrastructure.
To complete this work safely, both eastbound lanes on McGill Road between Dalhousie Drive and University Drive will be closed. The centre median will be temporarily removed to accommodate one lane of eastbound traffic adjacent to the work zone, while westbound traffic will continue to operate in its existing lanes.
A portion of the south sidewalk will also be closed, with pedestrians redirected to the north sidewalk.
"These upgrades are an important investment in our water system that will help support future growth and balance the system," said Matt Kachel, the City’s Infrastructure Delivery Divisional Manager. "We appreciate the patience and co-operation of residents, businesses, and motorists as this work progresses."
Motorists should expect delays, reduce speeds through the construction zone, follow posted signage, and obey traffic control personnel. Where possible, travellers are encouraged to use alternate routes.
Transit service and emergency vehicle access will remain unaffected throughout construction.
Work is expected to be complete in late August.
