City Seeks Applications for Official Community Plan Advisory Group

Release Date

The City is seeking applications from residents interested in participating in an advisory group to provide guidance on the 2025 update of the City’s Official Community Plan, commonly known as KAMPLAN.

Municipalities in British Columbia are required to adopt an Official Community Plan. While an Official Community Plan does not commit a municipality to proceed with any project specified in the plan, all bylaws enacted or works undertaken by the local government need to be consistent with the plan. An Official Community Plan guides local government decision-making, particularly around land use matters.

With recent legislated changes, all local governments are required to have Official Community Plan updates adopted by the end of the year.

The most recent KAMPLAN was adopted by Council in 2018, and a review and update of the plan is now underway. After the advisory group is formed, targeted and public engagement will occur over the spring and summer. A draft plan will be completed by late summer. Following further public engagement on the draft, the plan will be brought forward to Council for final adoption by December 2025.

The KAMPLAN Advisory Group will help guide the project and help inform staff reports and recommendations to Council. The advisory group term will end in December 2025 when the KAMPLAN review and update is complete.

The City is now accepting applications from individuals that will form a group representing a broad cross section of the community. Desired composition of the group is diverse and will include representatives from:

•    the community at large
•    the development industry
•    the social and/or health sector
•    the environmental and/or sustainability sector
•    the business sector

Consultation with Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc is underway as part of the Official Community Plan review and update process.

The deadline to apply for the KAMPLAN Advisory Group is Sunday, April 6, 2025, at 11:59 pm.
