City Flags Important Utility Bill Deadline as Mailed Notices Delayed Due to Canada Post Labour Action

Release Date

Kamloops, BC—The City of Kamloops reminds residents of the upcoming quarterly utility payment deadline in recognition that labour action at Canada Post is interrupting mail service throughout Canada. This disruption will likely delay the delivery of mailed utility bills to residents and commercial utility users this quarter. Those signed up for eBilling will receive their bills via email by November 30 as scheduled. All utility users must be aware that the mail service interruption will not change the deadline for utility payments. Utility bills must be paid by December 31, 2024, to avoid penalties and interest.

As of November 29, 2024, all utility bills will be accessible online through the MyCity tool. The City encourages residents who still need to create a free MyCity account to do so at Kamloops.ca/MyCity. The process is easy, and the tool allows residents to view current and past utility bills as well as:

  • view account payment history
  • access detailed account information for dog and business licences
  • review current and historical property assessment and tax levy information
  • monitor building/development permits
  • schedule building inspection requests
  • sign up for eBilling (paperless billing emailed right to your inbox)

Residents who do not have access to MyCity are welcome to visit City Hall or call 250-828-3438 for assistance accessing billing information.

There are several convenient ways to pay utility bills by the December 31, 2024, deadline, including:

  • online at Kamloops.ca/payment
  • online banking via one’s financial institution
  • in person at City Hall between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm on weekdays
  • dropbox at City Hall - available 24/7
  • dropbox at the Tournament Capital Centre, North Shore Community Policing Office, or Westsyde Pool between 8:30 am and 3:30 pm on weekdays

The latest edition of the City Newsletter, which is distributed with utility bills, can be found online at Kamloops.ca/CityNewsletter.

Other City mailouts potentially delayed due to the Canada Post service disruption include business licence renewal notices and some vendor payments. Payment for 2025 business licence renewals is also due December 31, 2024. More information on that process is available at Kamloops.ca/Business. Vendors due for payment from the City of Kamloops will be contacted in the coming weeks. They are also welcome to contact the Accounts Payable team at 250-828-3423 to arrange to pick up cheques from City Hall during business hours.
