Recycling and Garbage

Multi-Material BC (MMBC)

The City of Kamloops has joined the Multi-Materials BC (MMBC) Printed Paper and Packaging (PPP) recycling program.

Starting in April 2017, households will be asked to follow a new set of standards governing what materials are accepted in the curbside recycling program.

The most notable change is that glass and soft plastic film (plastic shopping bags, plastic wrap, etc.) cannot be placed in curbside carts. These products require special handling to ensure they do not contaminate other recyclable materials.

Where to Take Glass and Soft Plastic Film
These products will be accepted at the existing MMBC depots: Lorne Street Bottle Depot and both locations of General Grants Recycling Centre.

A full list of what can and cannot be placed in curbside carts can be found here.

DLC Waste

Demolition, Land Clearing & Construction (DLC) Waste
Demolition, Land Clearing and Construction Waste, or “DLC Waste” consists of largely inert solid waste, resulting from construction, remodelling, and demolition projects.

Demolition/construction waste is not generated by everyone, so the cost of this service should be subsidized by the users and not taxpayers.

Taking the time to separate and sort your load will allow you to re-scale, which can significantly lower your recycling and disposal fees. Plan ahead at your construction or demolition site prior to transporting material to the landfill.

You may also separate and sort your mixed loads on-site at the facility. If you choose not to separate, sort and re-scale, you will pay more.
