Only amateur sports organizations/individuals are eligible. Events must utilize services/facilities within the City of Kamloops. For two championships held for the same sport on the same date (i.e. boys & girls tournaments), then that event is eligible for one grant only.

The maximum amount allocated provided funds are available, will be:

• Provincial Tournament (participants from BC) - $500
• Western Canadian Tournament (participants from BC, AB, SK & MB) - $1,000
• National Tournament (participants from Canada) - $1,500
• Invitational Tournament (participants from out of town) - $1500 

Please Note: If applying for a Provincial, Western Canadian, or National grant, the application must include a letter, on letterhead, from the governing sport body confirming the event as a bona-fide championship. If no documentation is provided, an Invitational Tournament Capital Grant will be issued.

Tournament Capital Grants will be approved by the Tournament Capital Grant Committee. Grants will be reviewed and approved for payment on a quarterly basis. Applicants should apply within three months of event date. Any additional information which you feel will assist the Tournament Capital Grant Committee may be attached.

KidSport Kamloops provides families with children aged of 5-18 years with financial assistance to participate in sports in Kamloops. 

Applications are reviewed monthly. Please submit 4–6 weeks in advance to allow time for processing.

To ensure your application can be properly reviewed, please include all required documentation is uploaded to your application.

• Notice of Assessment: 1 for a single income home or 2 for a dual income home
• Cover Letter: Please explain why you are applying for funding and how KidSport would support you and your family.

The BC Summer Games Sport Development Grant is available to local coaches, officials, and sport organizations interested in furthering their knowledge in their respective areas.  

Examples may include: 

• a Level III coach pursuing Level IV certification
• an Umpire taking training to learn to instruct other Umpires
• a sport organization presenting a high-profile "Keynote Speaker" that might be of value to numerous individuals

This fund is a legacy of the 2006 BC Summer Games as a result of a $100,000 budget surplus from staging the games. The interest earned on the balance will provide the annual grant and will grow each subsequent year, "giving back" to the sport leaders in our community for years to come. Reviews are held quarterly.

Winter Games Legacy Fund Grants are to cover circumstances where a person or group advances beyond local competition, or is recruited to a provincial or nationally ranked team.  

Grants will be reviewed and paid on a quarterly basis. Maximum of ONE grant per calendar year. Qualifying events, if applicable, must have taken place within the previous three months. Applicants/organizations must be a resident in Kamloops. The maximum amount allocated, provided funds are available, will be $150 for individuals and $300 for groups. If funds are limited, priority may be given to youth applicants. 

Please provide the following information: 

• Proof of qualification to advanced level of competition
• Completed application form
• Detailed statement of income and expenses (proposed or actual) for attending this event (on attached form)

Note: Granting is subject to availability of funds from the Winter Games Legacy Fund Grant as provided in the City of Kamloops Annual Budget.

The City of Kamloops aims to provide financial assistance to Kamloops individuals or groups for development, presentation, or competition in the various fields of the visual, performing, literary, media, and interdisciplinary arts.

Criteria 

Grant applications should fall under one of the following categories: 

1. Personal Development: To help further the artistic development of an individual or single organization. 
2. Community Development: To support community artistic development through initiatives such as workshops, master classes, and seminars. 
3. Travel Assistance: To provide travel assistance to individuals attending or participating in important cultural events outside of the Kamloops region.

Policy

Grants from the BC Festival of the Arts Legacy Fund range up to a maximum of $600, subject to availability of funds. Groups may receive only one grant per calendar year. Individuals are not eligible for funding in consecutive years.

In order to be eligible, each applicant must submit a completed application form and be accompanied by: 

1. A description of the project, event, or workshop and how it will benefit the community of Kamloops (maximum three pages)
2. A resume or short biography on you or the organization of activities and experience in your given art form
3. A statement of revenue and expenses
4. Two reference letters from individuals from within his/her respective art field who could comment, if asked, on the applicant and/or project

The amount of the grant will not exceed one-third of the project's total cost, up to a $600 maximum. If your grant application is successful, upon completion of your project (within six weeks), you will be required to provide the City of Kamloops with a written evaluation of the project. It is important that you relate outcomes to initial objectives and final budget. If you do not submit this evaluation, it could impact future applications.

Deadlines

Applications will be reviewed three times a year by the Arts and Culture Engagement Group. Deadlines for applications are: 

1. January 15
2. May 15
3. September 15

Now accepting 2024 online applications for the Community Art Grant. Applications are due by 4:00 pm on Friday, April 5, 2024.

This grant is available for projects promoting development and awareness of the arts in our community. A diverse and well-rounded cultural community seeks the involvement of artists at all levels: amateur, emergent, and professional. Priority will be given to those creative initiatives that function as a catalyst for great community involvement in the arts.

Criteria

Any non-profit organization may apply for these funds. Non-profit organizations whose regular activities do not normally include artistic production are encouraged to collaborate with artists or arts organizations. On-going operational funding will not be provided through this program.

Initiatives applied for must be able to be completed within 12 months of receiving funding.

Funds/Budgets

• The organization applying for funds must provide one-third of the project funding from other sources.
• Applicants may apply for funds up to $10,000. Realistic budgets must be presented.
• Funds may be allocated to successful projects at varying stages of completion, e.g.:
  • one-third upon starting the project
  • one-third upon substantial completion
  • one-third upon completion
• The City of Kamloops reserves the right to withhold or withdraw funding from projects that are not seen to be fulfilling the application mandate.

Principally established to help support, develop and nurture creative growth for youth by offering funds to help cover the cost of programs, events or workshops. This fund is to assist with eliminating the financial barriers for children ages 18 and younger to participate in cultural programs in Kamloops. The Boogie the Bridge Cultural Fund  is a community based cultural funding program established in 2005 and made possible by community support in participating in the annual event of Boogie the Bridge.

The Government of Canada’s Reaching Home: Canada’s Homelessness Strategy is a community-based program aimed at preventing and reducing homelessness. It provides direct funding to urban, Indigenous, rural, and remote communities to help them address their local homelessness needs. It is funded by the Government of Canada’s Reaching Home: Canada’s Homelessness Strategy.

Reaching Home will fund activities that contribute to the objectives of the program while reflecting local realities, community needs and opportunities. Projects must meet one of the following Reaching Home Directives:

• Housing Services
• Prevention and Shelter Diversion
• Client Support Services
• Capital Investments
• Coordination of Resources and Data Collection

Applications closed on January 15, 2024, at 4:30 pm for Reaching Home funding available under the Designated Communities Stream for the fiscal years: 2024-2025 and 2025-2026.

A Community Advisory Board, consisting of representatives who understand the issues, needs and priorities of those experiencing homelessness, set the direction for how funding is allocated. The City of Kamloops, by agreement with the Government of Canada, is responsible for administering and managing the allocated funds.  All funding is contingent upon receiving funds from the Government of Canada.

Funding is available for projects that address priorities identified in the Kamloops Social Plan and/or align with at least one of the Council’s Strategic Priorities. Applications may be submitted for operational costs, special projects, special capital expenditures, or one-year seed money for a social enterprise initiative. 

Application Information

Applicants were invited to apply for funding up to $30,000. Funding is available for projects that address priorities identified in the Kamloops Social Plan and/or align with at least one of the Council’s Strategic Priorities. Applications may be submitted for operational costs, special projects, special capital expenditures, or one-year seed money for a social enterprise initiative. 

All applicants will be notified if they have been approved or denied in late December after a thorough evaluation process by the Social Planning Engagement Group, which is facilitated by City staff. The final determination of awards will be made public in January 2024.

Appeal Process

The appeal process is designed to provide applicant organizations that did not receive Social and Community Development Grant funding with the opportunity to express their concerns about the recommendations directly to the Social Planning Engagement Group. Dissatisfaction with the denial of a grant or the amount of a grant is not grounds for appeal. Please note that incomplete applications will not be granted an appeal process. The Kamloops Climate Action Grant aims to enable residents, non-profit organizations, and charities to undertake community-based climate action focused projects that will help advance priority actions in the Community Climate Action Plan. 

Eligible applicants are encouraged to propose creative, equitable and community-driven projects that have the potential to advance one or more of the following objectives: 

• Provides a direct benefit to the Kamloops community, urban environment, and/or ecosystem
• Supports the implementation of the Community Climate Action Plan
• Enhances community resilience to climate change and/or reduces greenhouse gas emissions
• Fosters neighbourhood pride and/or community wellness
• Respects the principles of equity and climate justice
   

Applicants can apply for between $500 and $2,000 in funding.
