Deadline for residential property taxes classes was July 2, 2020
Council has announced that the City will delay the late payment penalty for residential and commercial property taxes from July 3 to July 31 and October 1, 2020, giving those who are experiencing financial difficulties more time to pay if needed.
The City encourages residents and businesses who can still afford to do so, to kindly pay property taxes and utility bills on time. This will ensure the municipality has the revenues needed to continue to provide essential and priority services.
For property classes 1, 2, 3, and 9, the date for application of the penalty has been extended to July 31 and October 1, 2020, and the 10% penalty has been split between the following dates:
- Payment by July 2 deadline – no penalty
- Payment between July 3-July 30 – no penalty
- Payment between July 31-September 30 – 5% penalty
- Payment on or after October 1 – an additional 5% penalty
For property classes 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8, the date for the penalty has been extended to October 1, 2020. A 10% penalty will be applied to all unpaid property tax balances on October 1, 2020.
Please ensure that the City receives your payment and you claim your Home Owner Grant (HOG) by the due date to avoid any penalties. Your HOG was due on July 2, 2020. A 10% penalty will be applied on October 1, 2020 for any unclaimed HOG.
