Virtual Kamloops Canada Day 2020

Release date:
June 17, 2020

The City of Kamloops, in partnership with the Kamloops Arts Council and with funding from Heritage Canada, is excited to announce the Virtual Kamloops Canada Day 2020 Celebration.

In April, the City of Kamloops announced that the annual Canada Day celebration in Riverside Park would be cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The virtual event will feature a dynamic line-up of musical performances, artists, interactive activities, and more.

"We're still finalizing the line-up but so far we have several performances by local groups confirmed including Ukrainian Dancers, Canada Wide Drumming, and Western Canada Theatre," said Terri Hadwin, Kamloops Arts Council Executive Director.

A number of fun-filled, interactive activities are planned for the kids (of all ages), including face painting and a science experiment. A list of supplies for the event's activities will be listed on Kamloops.ca/CanadaDay.

"We are excited to be able to bring a virtual Canada Day celebration to the residents of Kamloops," said Dewi Evans, the City's Community Events Coordinator.

"The annual event in Riverside park draws tens of thousands of people, so we know it is a popular event. We hope the virtual event will bring some joy and a sense of community togetherness and national unity that our annual event in the park would. It will be presented in a different format, but the spirit of celebrating Canada Day is just as strong as ever," added Evans.

The City extends a special thank you to the Kamloops Arts Council for organizing the Virtual Canada Day festivities, to Heritage Canada for funding the event, and to New Gold for providing additional sponsorship.
