After four months of construction on the Victoria Street West Improvements Project, Stage 1 will reopen below BCLC and on Seymour Street West midday on Saturday, August 24. Original pre-construction traffic patterns will resume at this time, with traffic flowing westbound on Victoria Street West below City Hall and BCLC and eastbound on Seymour Street West.
This week (August 19–23), temporary traffic pattern changes were also implemented to accommodate the paving of Seymour Street West. To view maps of these temporary traffic pattern changes, go to LetsTalk.Kamloops.ca/VictoriaWest and view project updates.
“The City and Extreme Excavating appreciate the patience of all the businesses and residents along the Victoria Street West corridor, particularly those businesses in Stage 1,” said Darren Crundwell, the City’s Capital Projects Manager. “The project is on schedule. Extreme Excavating is currently completing Stage 2 on the south side of the road, and moved into Stage 3 earlier this week.”
Stage 3 encompasses the north side of Victoria Street West from Spoke N’ Motion to Sun Life Financial. As crews move through Stage 3, construction will be restricted to the north side of the road, with traffic travelling in two lanes on the south side of the road—one in each direction.
The Victoria Street West Improvements Project includes the following improvements to replace aging infrastructure, enhance pedestrian and motorist safety, and beautify the corridor:
- replacing and undergrounding utilities
- reconstructing and repaving the road
- improving pedestrian facilities, lighting, and landscaping
